The City operates and maintains 188 miles of storm sewer and 169 miles of sanitary and combined sewers. Our work includes main line rodding and root cutting, main line televising, lift station operation/maintenance, catch basin cleaning, flood response and utility locating.

We also work collaboratively with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago on various storm and sanitary projects, as well as monitoring the City’s connections with the District's system.

Sanitary Sewer Back-Up Assistance

If a Des Plaines homeowner experiences a sanitary sewer back-up, they could be eligible for financial assistance from the City (maximum of 30% reimbursement). The Sanitary Sewer Lateral Program provides financial assistance to residents facing sanitary sewer complications within qualifying areas.
