Graceland Ave. Railroad Crossing Repairs

Post Date:08/19/2023

The Illinois Department of Transportation and Union Pacific Railroad will be doing repairs to the train crossing on Graceland Avenue between Northwest Highway/Miner Street and Ellinwood Street. This will require a full closure starting, weather permitting, at 9 a.m. on Monday, August 14. The City of Des Plaines has coordinated with IDOT and Union Pacific to construct a new water main under the tracks at the same time to maximize efficiency and limit the inconvenience for motorists. The work is expected to be completed by August 31. A posted detour will direct motorists to Northwest Highway, Broadway Street, Golf Road, Wolf Road and Oakton Street. Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to detour signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.

Pace detour information for routes 226, 225 and the Pulse Dempster Line.

UPDATE (8/28/23): Graceland Avenue will remain closed until September 8 in order to complete construction work. The final phase of work is expected to be completed the week of September 4, which will include pavement resurfacing and pavement markings.
